Oh, where to begin. I guess I’ll go in order of events.
1. I got back from my Austria/Germany trip about a week and a half ago and let me tell you, the mid-80 degree weather sure was nicer than the 100+ here in Texas.
The Austrian GP has been a bucket list event for my dad and I for many years now. So, this year I decided to make it a reality for his Father’s Day gift. We flew from DFW and spent 2 days in Graz, driving through the beautiful Austrian Countryside to Spielberg. It was definitely a race to see, even though Mercedes ended with that double DNF.
heres some photos from RBR:
I didn’t get to bring the monster 100-400mm lens like I use in Austin, So I never really got any good race shots.
Upon leaving Sunday we drove from Spielberg to Salzburg for a little RR. After two days there we packed up and began our drive to Germany. Stopping in Munich for some wonderful beer.
Next, was Stuttgart. Which is a place I’ve been wanting to visit pretty much all my life because of this:
According to my mother, I have a relation to Emil Jellinek, famous for commissioning the first ,“Modern Mercedes” car. So to see his collection of vehicles was pretty surreal.
Now here’s just some more photos:
Obviously there’s a bazillion more cars there than the ones above but there’s also that many pictures, and I’m sure you don’t want to spend the rest of your day scrolling through all my Mercedes photos. But I will single out one that was super special to see, for me at least. if you’ve read any of my past posts you’ll know why.
BEHOLD. THE ORIGINAL ML FROM THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK
So, that was my trip, definitely one to cross off my bucket list. If you want to see more of the Austria side, check out this video I made:

When I returned home, I had already been looking to replace my DD (2002 Mustang GT). As a videographer I needed something I could haul all my gear in: C-Stands, lights, pelican cases, boxes of extension cords, etc. Plus, at close to 200K miles on a mid 2000's Ford I figured I needed to get rid of it ASAP. so...
Enter the 2018 Jeep Rubicon JL!
So far it’s actually been a dream to drive considering it’s still a Jeep. Compared to my 92' YJ its an Escalade, and definitely a huge upgrade over my Mustang. Planning some trips to Big Bend and Colorado soon and can’t wait to use it for what it’s actually made for!
Anyways, here’s some bonus Austria pics I forgot to include while writing this:

It had a completely different (better) flavor there than here in Texas. Hofbrau was also a good visit

Definitely hope to do some driving in the Austrian countryside some day. Seems like it would be a great place to cruise and take in the scenery and enjoy great food.
And I was just in Dallas for work, man was it fucking hot lol. Like yeah its pretty hot right now at home in California but it cools off at night at least. And the humidity is quite different feeling. I played ultimate Frisbee one night figuring it might cool off at night hahaha. Yeah now I know what 100 degrees at night feels like..

Driving through Austria was one of my favorite parts. It’s just incredibly relaxing. As far as cities like Munich, I’ll take an Uber next instead. Less stress.
And tell me about it, you know it’s bad when 95 starts to feel decent outside.

Congrats on the JL, but get thee a soft top!

Oh I shall! Just needed to get one with a hard top for now since I’m hauling a bunch of high end video equipment. Would rather spend the money for a hard top than risk getting a soft top slashed more easily and broken into

Yeah, that’s definitely a problem. Bestop’s instatrunk isn’t a bad solution, but probably not big enough for you. I’ve seen pre-fabricated systems which basically raise the floor but still allow the rear seats to be installed, giving you the room underneath for secured equipment.

This looks larger than Bestop’s and is available now: https://www.tuffyproducts.com/p-564-tuffy-jl-security-deck-enclosure.aspx
